I have already written several times that Thronehammer are a fantastic live band. In this respect, this report could be extremely short. Nevertheless, I will of course devote a few more lines to the gig at the Rockpalast Bochum.

The support band Kill Reflex, local heroes from the city of the last-placed team in the Bundesliga, was completely unknown to me until Sunday evening. Stylistically, we are dealing with a mix of hardcore, thrash and death metal – in other words, unfortunately, the guys' music is quite far from my taste centre. Nevertheless, it should be noted that we are dealing with very good and also likeable musicians who, without question, can enthuse many fans of the genres mentioned above.

I already knew Thronehammer's setlist in advance, so I was particularly looking forward to “Shieldbreaker“ from the last album Kingslayer. As expected, the number on stage is a real bombshell that, in my opinion, can easily compete with the band anthem “Thronehammer“ – I don't need to mention that the latter really raised the roof at the Rockpalast.

It was noticeable to me and my expert companion Alex that Kat, Stuart and co. are even more multi-faceted thanks to the new compositions. I can hardly imagine the set without both “Kingslayer“ and “Triumphant Emperor“. However, since this applies to many tracks, Thronehammer will probably have to play for 2 hours in the future...

In summary, the band impressively confirmed that they are one of the most spectacular live acts the underground has to offer. The five of them crush everything and everyone with their powerful and majestic performance. Not least during the breathtaking “A Fading King“, Kat proves how much she has matured as a singer in recent years, giving the instrumentalists' gala performance the appropriate crowning touch.

Anyone who has not yet experienced Thronehammer live has definitely missed out – and should fill this gap in their CV at the earliest opportunity.
